Hague Prayer Request

I received the following email from our adoption agency. Join me in prayer, won't you?

Dear Families,

I just wanted to send you a quick update to let everyone know that today we did submit to Hague our petition for re-consideration. They now have 15 business days (3 weeks) to respond to us whether they will re-consider us or not. If they choose to re-consider us, there is no specific time line for their decision. If they decide not to reconsider us, then we will have to wait until next summer to re-apply for Hague approval. So please pray that the people that will be reading our re-consideration letter that they find it in their hearts to re-evaluate our agency for Hague accreditation. The more people praying for this the better. We will let you know as soon as we hear back from them what their decision is.

Why Malagan's Song?

To tell you the truth, I don't know really. Everytime I would try to come up with a name for her blog, I would hit a dead end. Malagan's Story just didn't sound quite right; and it seems like everyone is saying, "journey to.....", and I'm not wild about that either. For some reason, that I don't even know, I just kept saying Malagan's song. I just think it reflects my personality and who I am. I LOVE music...of all kinds, and I love to sing. Songs have a beginning and an ending, but they can be sung or played over and over. That's what I have in mind with this blog. This song already has a beginning, and it will have an ending (one day), but I can sing it over & over again.....reminding myself and my youngest daughter that God loves us SOOOO much, that He brought us all together as a family in such a wonderful, and miraculous way.

What's in a Name?

Our youngest daughter's first name is Malagan. She will be called Malley. To me, names have a huge significance; and we've tried to name all of our children very intentionally based on heritage or meaning. Malagan is no different. Here's how she got her name.

In 2005 we began to prayerfully consider adoption. We felt led to adopt from China. This must have been God, because at the time I was 29; and you can't apply for China until you're 30. So there was a whole year of preparing and waiting (not my strong suit). We began to assemble the mounds of paperwork in early 2006. One of the things that I was praying about as we began was that God would give us a name for her that would serve as confirmation that we were doing or had done HIS will. I really didn't think I would receive that confirmation until much later.

But.....That summer, our oldest daughter (2nd child) became very, very ill from an E. Coli infection that developed into the very deadly Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (see link Sara Kate's saga). This illness caused her kidneys to fail and she was in the PICU at University Medical Center, in Knoxville, TN. There, we had the most wonderful, kind, and compassionate doctor. She was a true blessing, and I believe she was a gift from God. One night, while in the midst of pure hell, I asked Brad if we should continue with the adoption because at that time we did not know how much Sara Kate could/would recover. We both agreed that we should continue and we both felt that God had given us the baby's name, Malagan, after Dr. Maricarmen Malagan. There are other side stories and details that serve as further confirmation for us, but it's enough just to know we're waiting on Malley.
